Two-Day International Seminar – Kerala Folklore Academy

The two-day international seminar was jointly organised by Yuva Kshetra College Malayalam Department, Yuva Kshetra Folklore Club and Kerala Folklore Academy. The theme of the international seminar to be held on August 12 and 13  സമകാലിക ഫോക് ലോറും കേരളീയ പരിസരവും

Kerala Folklore Academy chairman O. S. Unnikrishnan handed over the chekuttipava, a symbol of hope and survival, to Yuva Kshetra College principal Dr. Tomy Antony.

The recognition that heritage is something that changes over time is what makes contemporary folklore relevant. Dr Tomy Antony, principal of Yuva Kshetra College, presided over the function. Director Rev Dr Mathew George Vazhayil delivered the keynote address. Rev Fr Shaju Angevittil, Rev Dr Joseph Olickal Koonal and Jose P Jose conveyed their best wishes. Dr Vishal Johnson, professor, department of Malayalam, Yuva Kshetra College, welcomed the gathering.

At 11:30, Prof. (Dr.) Jose K. Manuel (School of Letters, Mahatma Gandhi University) presented a paper on Cyber Folklore. Siddhartha Siva (filmmaker) presented a paper based on the subject of Folklore in Cinema. Later, at 1:30 pm, Dr. Jisha C.K. (Asst. Professor School of Folklore Studies, Calicut University) presented the paper.

Professors and researchers from King’s College London, MG University, Calicut University, Kerala University, Malayalam University and Kasaragod Central University presented papers.

At 5:30 pm, Yakshagana ‘Ramayanam’ presented by Ramesh Shetty Bayar Yakshagana troupe of Kasaragod was staged.

The two-day international seminar was jointly organised by Yuva Kshetra College Malayalam Department,

YuvaKshetra Folklore Club and Kerala Folklore Academy.

At 10 o’clock on the topic of new innovations in folklore, Prof. (Dr) Aju K Narayanan (School of Letters, Mahatma Gandhi University) presented the paper.

Dr Nivea Thomas K (Charles Wallace India Trust Visiting Fellow, Global Cultures Institute King’s College London) presented a paper on “Who owns a Legend: Kadamattathu Kathanar in Cultural Memory.”

At 1:30 pm, Dr. M.B. Manoj (Asst. Department of Malayalam and Kerala Studies, University of Calicut.

Students and lecturers from various colleges presented papers on the occasion.

The meeting ended at 3:30 pm. Dr Vishal Johnson, president, Folklore Club, welcomed the gathering. Dr Tomy Antony, principal of Yuva Kshetra College, presided over the function. Vice-principal Joseph Olickal Koonal welcomed the gathering. Malayalam department teacher Sreekumar K thanked the students.
