The eco-friendly green campus of Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies bloomed with erudite professors and budding psychologists on the initial days of the month of August as the Department of Psychology in Yuvakshetra College organized and hosted a Psychological Conference of national status on “Emerging Trends in Psychology” from 1 to 3 Aug. 2018.
The principal objective of the conference was to discuss the possibilities and formulate the distinct ways where the emerging trends in psychology can be made beneficial to the research scholars and the students of psychology. The three days conference witnessed the rousing participation of professors, research scholars and students of psychology from various universities and colleges across the country and more than 70 paper presentations on psychological and associated aspects.
The conference was officially inaugurated by Dr. K P Reetha, DMO, Palakkad in a grand function held on 1 August 2018 at Symphony Auditorium. Dr. Tomy Antony, the Principal, YIMS presided over the function. After the inaugural function, the first plenary session was begun with an enriching lecture rendered by Dr. Parves Thekkumpurath, Consultant Psychiatrist, MHAT, Calicut on “Community Psychiatry.” In the post noon session, the second plenary session was engaged by Dr. Bhasi S, Professor and Head of Clinical Psychology, SRM University, Chennai on “Neuropsychological Assessment and Rehabilitation.” It was followed by paper presentations by scholars and students at different venues in the campus. The second day of the conference commenced with the third plenary session in which Dr. P T K Kutty, Consultant Psychologist, Sai Institute, Shoranur delivered a lecture on “Alcohol Addiction.”
In the post noon session, the fourth plenary session was enriched by Mr. Hayash Teenoth, Clinical Psychologist, Malabar Medical College, Kozhikode with a scholarly lecture on “Psychological Measurement and Testing.” It followed the paper presentation session of the second day at different venues. In the late evening, the delegates and the participants of the conference were entertained by colourful and spectacular cultural programmes showcased by the young Yuvakshetrians of the Department of Psychology. The proceedings on third day of the conference were begun with the fifth plenary session in which Mr. Mebin Wilson, Forensic Psychologist, Jain University, Bengaluru enlightened the audience with his expertise on “Role of Forensic Psychological Techniques in Criminal Investigation.”
The post noon session of the third day witnessed the valedictory function inaugurated by Dr. N Veeramanikandan, Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Mankada in the presence of Rev. Fr. Jaison Chothirakkottu, the Assistant Director, YIMS. All the paper presenters were rewarded with certificates in the function. The three days National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Psychology” was, indeed, a grand success as it academically and socially enriched all those who had been a part of it.
