The Faculty Induction Programme of the academic year 2020-2021 was held on 19th and 20th of October 2020. It was a two-day programme conducted in Sophia Theatre of Christ Hill block of the college. Faculties who joined the college in the years 2019 and 2020 attended the programme. There were twenty-six faculties in total.
The first day of the FIP started with registration at 9.15 am and thereafter the inauguration ceremony. Ms. Anju E, Asst. Prof. Dept of Commerce, was the MC of the programme. Ms. Lintu Raj, Asst. Prof, Dept of Mathematics, sang the prayer. The first event of the FIP was self introduction. It helped them to know each other at the very beginning.
The college Vice Principal, Rev. Dr. Lalu Olikkal, welcomed the gathering. The college Director, Rev. Dr.Mathew George Vazhayil, lit the lamp and inaugurated the FIP. There were three sessions on the first day. The Principal, Dr. Tomy Antony, handled the first session till 10.30am and shared the information regarding University Board, Admission Procedures and about the facilities in the college. Ms. Reshma, Asst. Prof. Dept of Commerce, proposed a vote of thanks for the session.
The second session was dealt by the Director. He intimated the faculties that professionalism, discipline and holistic development are the major aims of the college. He explained the meaning of the title ‘Yuvakshetra’ as “a holy place where young people gather”. Then he shared the details regarding the Director Board of the College. He made the faculties to travel through the history of the college and talked about the Founder Rev. Fr. Sebastian Panjikkaran and his selfless service. Moreover, the Director spoke about the motto and the various courses in the college. “The main four pillars of YIMS are Discipline, Academics, Grooming, and Relationship and Communication”, he added. He also pointed out what the college expects from each teacher. The session also gave a brief idea regarding the various programmes that have been conducting in the college. Ms. Smrithi N, Asst. Prof .Dept of Commerce, expressed her gratitude for the session, on behalf of the faculty members.
The college Vice Principal, Rev. Dr. Lalu Olikkal, handled the next session from 12pm. He focused on the educational goals of the college. He started the class by asking the reason for selecting the teaching profession. The faculties were asked to share their answers with each other. Their answers were like: they aim for well-being; to frame good minds; to mould good personality; to impart knowledge etc. The speaker quoted the life stories of Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri, Mother Teresa, Malala Yousafzai and Swami Vivekananda in order to explain how a teacher can influence the students. In addition, he detailed the concepts like integral personality, integral education, integral relationship and mentoring. It was an interactive and interesting session as he could communicate through videos too. Ms. Athira PV, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Psychology, proposed vote of thanks for the session.
The sessions on the second day started at 9.30am with a prayer by Ms. Neha Joseph. Ms. S. Aiswarya, Asst. Prof. Dept. of English, coordinated the session. Ms. Amritha R, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Commerce, delivered the welcome speech. The first class was handled by Rev. Fr. Shyju Pariyath, Assistant Director of the college. He started the class with a game and gave the message of success, sacrifice, gratefulness, sharing attitude, satisfaction and honesty. These were the main concepts highlighted in the class. Different stories were also used to simply inject the ideas into the audience’s mind. He taught the faculties to take corrections and criticism positively; to focus on the positives; not to hold on judgements; and to live in the moment. Ms Roopa PR, Asst. Prof. Dept. of English, proposed the vote of thanks.
The second session of the day was dealt by the Vice Principal, Rev. Dr. Lalu Olikkal. He displayed an interactive thought-provoking video regarding the role of a teacher in the life of a student. He also explained the motto of the college- “Inform and form to transform”. It was also a highly informative session for the new faculties because the college authority could detail the rules and regulations in the college. Mr. Josen P Jose, Superintendent, shared the official information about college timing, leave availment, examinations, question paper patterns and internal mark system. Ms. Keerthika, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Computer Science, delivered the vote of thanks for the session.
The most important goal of FIP 2020 was to know Yuvakshetra. So college authority introduced every nook and corner of the college compound. It really helped the new faculties to know the facilities of the college and to identify why it is unique.
