According to the American Psychological Association “Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior” It is a multifaceted discipline and includes many sub-fields of study such as human development, sports psychology, health psychology, behavioral neuroscience, cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology and industrial-organizational psychology. Psychologists play a vital role in healthcare by caring for individuals experiencing mental health issues, performing psychotherapy, investigating treatment options, and teaching patients how to manage their symptoms effectively. Psychologists are employed in hospitals, mental health clinics, schools, colleges and universities, government agencies, private businesses, and private practices. They perform a wide variety of tasks and roles ranging from treating mental illness to performing research to influencing public health policy.
B.Sc. Psychology or Bachelor of Science in Psychology is an undergraduate Psychology Programme. The duration of B.Sc. Psychology is for three years and the syllabus for the course is divided into six semesters. Students will demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology. Students will understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation. Students will respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes. Students will understand and apply psychological principles to personal, social, and organizational issues. Students will be able to weigh evidence, tolerate ambiguity, act ethically, and reflect other values that are the underpinnings of psychology as a discipline. Students will demonstrate information competence and the ability to use computers and other technology for many purposes. Students will recognize, understand, and respect the complexity of socio-cultural and international diversity.
