Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are legal protections granted to creators and inventors for their intangible assets. These rights are crucial in fostering innovation, creativity, and economic growth by providing creators with exclusive rights to use, sell, and profit from their creations. IPR encompasses various types of protections, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Patents are granted for new inventions, giving inventors exclusive rights to their creations for a specific period, typically 20 years. This encourages investment in research and development by ensuring inventors can benefit from their innovations. Copyrights protect original works of authorship, such as literature, music, and art.. This incentivizes the creation of cultural and educational content. Trademarks safeguard symbols, names, and slogans used to identify and distinguish goods or services. They help consumers identify the source of products and maintain brand integrity, thereby fostering trust and loyalty in the marketplace. Trade secrets protect confidential business information, such as formulas, processes, and strategies, that provide a competitive edge. Companies must take reasonable steps to keep this information secret to benefit from trade secret protection.
