5th International Yoga Day Celebration At Yuvakshetra (June 21,2019)

Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in the ancient India. Several recent studies suggested that yoga may help to reduce stress and relieve anxiety, depression and insomnia. To help students gain more information about yoga and it’s Psychological aspects, the Department of Psychology organized a session of Yoga on 5th international Yoga Day (June 21).

The participants were second and third year students of psychology and Geography. The chief guest of the session was Acharya Shaji Bhaskaran, Chairman, Mystic Yoga Vidhya Wellness Center, Kallekulangara, Palakkad. The programme started at 9.45 am with the prayer of Aneena. K. Binoy. Ms. Aparna Sreevalsan, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was given by Rev. Dr. Mathew George Vazhayil, Director of YIMS. The inaugural address was presented by the chief guest of the session, Acharya Shaji Bhaskaran. He explained the various theoretical aspects of yoga. Rev. Dr. Lalu Olikkal, Vice Principal, YIMS and Mr. Jith George, Head of the Department of Psychology felicitated the session. Students of 2nd Bsc Psychology presented a Yoga dance. After that Ms. Rithika Ramal, 2nd Bsc Psychology delivered the vote of thanks. After the official programme, chief guest Acharya Shaji Bhaskaran conducted a practical session of yoga. He emphasized on the basic and essences of yoga while giving clarification to the doubts of students. Students were curious about the influence of yoga in improving learning.
